Donor Support Needed for their Emergency Care and Treatment
DENVER July 8, 2022—On Wednesday, investigators from the Colorado Humane Society (CHS), a program of the Dumb Friends League, worked with local law enforcement to bring 80 gravely neglected, malnourished, and injured horses in need of immediate care to the League’s Harmony Equine Center in Franktown. Many of the vulnerable horses arrived at Harmony with severe physical injuries, respiratory infections, and seeping wounds.
“Seeing this herd for the first time has been devastating for our entire team,” said Alex Wildee, lead CHS investigator for the case. “These beautiful but critically wounded horses are now receiving vital nourishment, emergency medical treatment, comfort, and the loving affection they need at Harmony Equine Center.”
Over the next several weeks, the Harmony team will continue to assess each horse’s condition and provide them with specialized treatment to alleviate their pain and suffering. Long-term care will require the dedicated support of the League’s entire team, including staff, volunteers, and the organization’s community of donors.
“For over 100 years, our mission has been to end pet homelessness and animal suffering,” said Dr. Apryl Steele, President and CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “Given the size and desperate need of these incredibly vulnerable horses, we need the public’s help. Donations to the Dumb Friends League are essential to helping us cover the costs of their food, shelter, veterinary care, and future wellness.”
