KATIE PARKER

Vice President of Sheltering

Katie Parker, the Dumb Friends League’s Vice President of Operations, spent the past 16 years in animal welfare. “I have lived within one mile of the League for most of my life, and it was my first exposure to the world of homeless pets,” said Katie. “I had the opportunity to reset my career when I left the military, and the League was my answer to ‘If I could do any job, what would it be?’”

Katie earned her degree at the United States Air Force Academy and is an Air Force Veteran. Her career spans positions at the League (as our Customer Care Manager from 2006 through 2009), a Pet Animal Care Facilities Act inspector and then the Program Director at the Animal Assistance Foundation before becoming their Executive Director. She is also a former board member of the Colorado Pet Overpopulation Fund and The Grey Muzzle Organization and currently on the board of the Denver Animal Foundation.

“I am excited for the energy and enthusiasm that is generated by so many dedicated minds working together toward a common goal,” said Katie. “I am excited to work together to put the League’s resources to use doing the most good we can for pets across Colorado. I hope to make work easier, better and more rewarding for my team—while accomplishing more than ever before!”

Katie and her husband share their home with five League alum— Cricket, and crazy short-legged border collie and her sassy sidekick Kiwi, old-man cat Leo, plus Cleo and Stuey—litter mates the couple took home as fosters when they were tiny kittens.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys volunteering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Colorado, being outdoors, gardening, cheering on all Colorado sports teams, spending time with her family, cooking and making DIY spa products.
